Produce
We carry over 300 fresh options daily, and we boast the widest organic selection in Frederick. We also support local growers who farm in sustainable ways, or who may be transitioning to organic – a three year process! Below are the standards you can expect out of the produce sold in store.
- Primarily USDA certified organic
- If not organic, then LOCAL
- FairTrade (when accessible)
- Sustainable
Much of our produce comes from the following locations:
The Common Market has contacted our produce suppliers regarding their use of Apeel. We have confirmed with our produce suppliers that Apeel is not used on any of the produce that we purchase. We are committed to keeping the fruit and produce sold in our stores free of Apeel products.
According to the Cornucopia Organization (cornucopia.org) edible coatings are still much less common in organic produce than in non-organic – so choosing organic, including frozen organic, can help mitigate the risk of exposure to these coatings. Support your local organic growers, who are a lot less likely to use these coatings and eat in season whenever possible.
If consumers are especially concerned, fruit and produce can be peeled. Apeel’s products are not expected to migrate to the edible portion, and the main source of consumer exposure will be in products with edible peels.
